Interface Overview

Main Areas of the Window

XiPhoto's workspace is arranged around these areas:

  1. Menu Bar & Tool Options Bar (Top):
    • Top-level menus (File, Edit, Image, Layer, Type, Select, Filter, 3D, View, Window, Help).
    • Directly beneath the menu bar, the context-sensitive Options Bar updates for the active tool (brush size, hardness, opacity, flow, blend mode, selection feather, or alignment buttons).
  2. Tools Panel (Left Rail):
    • Houses selection tools (M, L, W), crop and slice (C), eyedropper (I), retouching (J, S), painting (B, E, G), vector pen and shapes (P, U), type (T), and navigation (H, Z), plus foreground/background color swatches (D to reset, X to swap) and Quick Mask toggle (Q).
  3. Document Tabs & Canvas (Center):
    • Displays open documents with optional rulers (Ctrl+R / Cmd+R), guides (Ctrl+;), pixel grid, marching-ants selection overlays, and interactive transform/crop handles.
  4. Dockable Studio Panels (Right & Bottom):
    • Layers, Channels, and Paths: Manage raster, adjustment, fill, group, text, vector shape, and Smart Object layers, blending controls, layer masks, clipping masks, and layer styles (Drop Shadow, Inner Shadow, Outer/Inner Glow, Bevel & Emboss, Satin, Color/Gradient Overlay, Stroke).
    • Adjustments & Properties: Edit non-destructive Levels, Curves, Hue/Saturation, Color Balance, Black & White, Vibrance, Threshold, Posterize, and Gradient Map settings.
    • Character & Paragraph: Control font family, size, leading, tracking, alignment, and text orientation.
    • History, Navigator, Histogram, Info, Swatches, Brushes, Clone Source, Timeline, and 3D: Toggle any panel from the Window menu or choose a workspace reset from the Window menu.

Switching Interface Language (English ⇄ العربية)

  • Shipped in the local pilot: Click the title-bar language switch to change between English and العربية without restarting.
  • Shipped: In the Character panel, choose an Arabic font beside the Latin font for each text run. The font menu groups Arabic and English fonts.
  • In progress: Arabic word order, the font dialog grouped by Arabic style, and the complete dialogs/About/welcome experience.
  • Press Tab outside text fields to hide or show panels and toolbars; Shift+Tab toggles the side docks.
