Frequently Asked Questions

These instructions describe the checked PdfCraft foundation as of 14 October 2026. XiPDF Alpha is free; public installer availability and XiKey integration are not yet verified.

Licensing, Pricing & Updates

1. Is XiPDF free during Alpha?

Alpha is free today for the XiKey Desktop suite. A free launch policy does not confirm a public installer for every product.

2. What will XiPDF cost at Beta?

At Beta, XiPDF is priced at $29/year ($14.50 in the first year with the 50% first-year discount) or $3.49/month ($0.99 for the first month). Alpha testers (founding members) keep the 50% yearly discount for life. Students pay $9/year for XiPDF alone or $19/year for XiKey Desktop Complete (all 14 products).

3. What is the refund and update policy?

The planned Beta policy includes a 30-day money-back guarantee; a refund revokes the licence. Updates are included while subscribed. Signed delivery through XiLauncher is in progress. Perpetual licences will be announced later.

Security, Redaction & Archiving

4. Does XiPDF redaction truly remove underlying text and images, or just draw a black box?

Applied redactions remove supported text and image content. Unsupported content can cause refusal. Save a separate copy and verify extracted text, images and hidden information before release.

5. Can I digitally sign and verify PDFs in XiPDF?

The checked foundation supports PKCS#12 digital IDs and signature verification. Trust, revocation and advanced long-term validation have limits; review the validation result for the intended recipient.

6. Which export and archival formats does XiPDF support?

Save documents as PDF; export pages as PNG, JPEG or TIFF, text as TXT and comments as FDF or XFDF. PDF/A-2b and PDF/A-3b conversion and checks are partial, without independent compliance validation.

7. Can I compare two versions of a contract or engineering drawing?

The foundation includes PDF comparison. Review the findings against both original files; comparison coverage and visual fidelity have documented gaps.
