Getting Started with XiPhoto

Overview and Alpha Status

XiPhoto is the layer-based raster image editor, retouching studio, and digital compositing application in the XiKey™ suite. XiPhoto is based on PhotoCraft (v0.8.2) by the ArtCraft team (MIT OR Apache-2.0).

  • Alpha availability: Alpha is free today. Public XiKey packages for every listed platform have not been verified. Signed XiKey updates through XiLauncher are in progress.
  • Arabic local pilot: The Arabic interface, one-click English ⇄ العربية title-bar switch, paired Arabic/Latin fonts, splash screen and XiKey icon are shipped in the tested local pilot. Arabic word order remains in progress.

Creating or Opening Your First Document

  1. Create a new canvas (Ctrl+N / Cmd+N): Choose File ▸ New and set the document dimensions, resolution and color settings.
  2. Open existing files (Ctrl+O / Cmd+O): Supported inputs include native pcraft, PSD, PSB, OpenRaster, PNG, JPEG, TIFF, WebP, GIF, BMP, SVG, KRA and PDN. Keep originals and test layered-file exchange: support is incomplete, and an input format is not necessarily a save format.

Welcome Screen and Workspace Choices (Status)

  • Theme: Appearance preferences are inherited from PhotoCraft.
  • Language selection (English ⇄ العربية) — shipped in the local pilot: Use the one-click title-bar switch without restarting.
  • Font dialog grouped by Arabic style — in progress: The current font menu groups Arabic and English fonts; the expanded dialog is unfinished.
  • Dialogs, About and first-launch welcome — in progress.
  • Classic/Modern layouts and Retina scaling — planned.
