Arabic PDF & RTL Support in XiPDF

These instructions describe the checked PdfCraft foundation as of 14 October 2026. XiPDF Alpha is free; public installer availability and XiKey integration are not yet verified.

Honest Status: What Works Today vs. Coming

Capabilities in the checked foundation

  • Arabic PDFs can preserve their appearance with embedded fonts, but complex rendering has documented limits. Inspect each file and printed output.
  • Search depends on a valid text layer and character mapping. The checked OCR supports unaccented Latin, not Arabic.
  • Page operations, comments, redaction and signing are upstream capabilities. Redaction may refuse unsupported content; verify the saved copy before sharing.

In Progress / Planned for XiPDF (Coming)

  • Work in Arabic or English — In progress: In progress: Arabic interface integration and a one-click EN ⇄ ع switch. The live switch is shipped in XiPhoto; its port to this product is still underway.
  • Find Arabic fonts by style — In progress: In progress: a shared font dialog grouping Arabic faces by styles such as Naskh, Kufi and Diwani, with appropriate previews. Integration here is pending.
  • A consistent XiKey welcome — In progress: In progress: XiKey splash, About and message dialogs, including upstream credit and licences. These are not yet a verified integrated release of this product.
  • Choose your workspace and scale — Planned: Planned: Classic and Modern layouts, Retina scaling and user-controlled interface scale.
  • Extend through XiLauncher — Planned: Planned: installation and management of sandboxed add-ons through XiLauncher. No compatible add-on catalogue is promised for this Alpha.
  • Receive verified updates — In progress: In progress: signed update delivery through XiLauncher. Publishing and installer integration remain unfinished.
