These instructions describe the checked DesignCraft foundation as of 14 October 2026. XiLayout Alpha is free; public installer availability and XiKey integration are not yet verified.

Licensing, Pricing & Updates

1. Is XiLayout free during Alpha?

Alpha is free today for the XiKey Desktop suite. A free launch policy does not confirm a public installer for every product.

2. What will XiLayout cost at Beta?

At Beta, XiLayout is priced at $19/year ($9.50 in the first year with the 50% first-year discount) or $2.49/month ($0.99 for the first month). Alpha testers (founding members) keep the 50% yearly discount for life. Students pay $9/year for XiLayout or $19/year for XiKey Desktop Complete (all 14 apps). XiLayout is also included in the XiKey Creative bundle ($79/year).

3. What is the refund and update policy?

The planned Beta policy includes a 30-day money-back guarantee; a refund revokes the licence. Updates are included while subscribed. Signed delivery through XiLauncher is in progress. Perpetual licences will be announced later.

Publishing, IDML & RTL Layout

4. Can XiLayout open and export Adobe InDesign (.idml) files?

IDML exchange carries document structure, styles, frames and stories. Native INDD and INDT cannot be opened. Verify fonts, line breaks, image links and overset; full round-trip fidelity is not promised.

5. Does XiLayout support Right-to-Left (RTL) Arabic books and magazines today?

The foundation includes RTL binding, Arabic paragraph direction and bidirectional text composition, with documented limits. XiKey Arabic interface and text controls remain in progress. Manual frame-to-frame threading is a blocker and a verified XiLayout release is not confirmed.

6. What output formats does XiLayout export for print and digital publishing?

The checked save list includes native documents, IDML, PDF, PNG and EPUB. PDF offers text, fonts, RGB/CMYK, spot colours, bleed and marks. Preflight assists review without certifying press-ready output. PDF/X-1a and X-3 and external validation remain gaps.

7. Can I combine multiple chapter files into a single Book with continuous pagination?

Book tools support chapter documents, pagination and style synchronization. Review the generated contents and index against the chapter files. The manual text-threading blocker still limits publication workflows.
