Arabic & RTL Publishing in XiLayout

These instructions describe the checked DesignCraft foundation as of 14 October 2026. XiLayout Alpha is free; public installer availability and XiKey integration are not yet verified.

Honest Status: What Works Today vs. Coming

Capabilities in the checked foundation

  • The checked foundation includes right-to-left binding and Arabic paragraph direction, with bidirectional text composition and documented typography limits.
  • Arabic Abjad and Alef-Ba-Ta page numbering are upstream options.
  • IDML exchange carries binding and paragraph direction; inspect each file rather than assuming exact fidelity.

In Progress / Planned Additions for XiLayout (Coming)

  • Choose English or Arabic in one click — In progress: In progress for this product: an Arabic interface and a live EN ⇄ ع switch. The working XiPhoto pilot does not establish availability here.
  • Find an Arabic font by its style — In progress: In progress: a font dialog grouped by Arabic styles, with relevant previews and script-aware ordering.
  • A coherent XiKey™ welcome and identity — In progress: In progress: XiKey splash, About, welcome and message dialogs. Integration into this product remains unfinished.
  • Choose a layout and comfortable display scale — Planned: Planned: Classic and Modern layout presets plus Retina scaling controls.
  • Shape Arabic text with purpose-built controls — In progress: In progress: kashida, tashkeel controls, Arabic digit styles and Hijri dates. These XiKey controls are not yet a shipped feature of this product.
  • Build editable geometric ornament — Planned: Planned: an Islamic geometric pattern generator producing vector paths and SVG; it is distinct from the upstream repeat tools.
  • Extend your tools through XiLauncher — Planned: Planned: sandboxed add-ons with XiKey manifests and installation management through XiLauncher.
  • Receive verified updates through XiLauncher — In progress: In progress: signed update delivery and verification through XiLauncher. A production update channel is not confirmed for this product.
