Getting Started with XiFilm

These guides describe the documented upstream workflow. XiFilm integration and installers are still in development; Alpha is free. Availability in a XiKey release has not yet been verified.

Overview and Alpha Status

XiFilm is the XiKey™ video editing project built on FilmCraft. The inspected upstream brings timeline editing, grading, audio mixing, titles, captions and media export into one workflow. XiKey integration remains planned at the Alpha stage, with Arabic interface and launcher additions in progress.

XiFilm is based on FilmCraft by the ArtCraft team (MIT OR Apache-2.0).

Creating a Project, Importing Media & Choosing a Shortcut Preset

  1. Create a project and sequence: Launch XiFilm, create a new project, and configure your sequence resolution, frame rate (23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, 60 fps), and audio sample rate.
  2. Import media or timelines: Import camera footage, audio stems, and still graphics via the Media Browser or Project panel, or import existing edits from Final Cut Pro XML (.fcpxml / .xml), CMX 3600 EDL (.edl), AAF (.aaf), or OpenTimelineIO (.otio).
  3. Pick your NLE keyboard preset: Open Edit ▸ Keyboard Shortcuts… to choose between FilmCraft Default, Premiere Pro Compatible, Final Cut Pro Compatible, and Avid Media Composer Compatible.

Welcome Screen and Workspace Choices (Status)

  • Work in Arabic or English — In progress: An Arabic interface and one-click EN ⇄ ع switching are in progress for this product. The verified pilot is XiPhoto; this integration is not shipped.
  • Find Arabic fonts by style — In progress: A font dialog grouped by Arabic styles, with script-aware previews, is in progress. Product integration and native review remain.
  • A consistent XiKey welcome — In progress: XiKey splash, About and message dialogs are in progress, including upstream credit and version information.
  • Choose a comfortable workspace — Planned: Classic and Modern layout presets, together with Retina scaling, are planned.
  • Extend through XiLauncher — Planned: XiKey add-ons managed through XiLauncher are planned.
  • Receive verified updates — In progress: Signed updates delivered through XiLauncher are in progress. A public XiKey release channel is not yet verified for this product.
