Task Guide: Syncing and Finishing a Four-Camera Acoustic Ensemble Session

These guides describe the documented upstream workflow. XiFilm integration and installers are still in development; Alpha is free. Availability in a XiKey release has not yet been verified.

Scenario

You filmed a live acoustic string quartet and cello performance in a timber concert hall using four cameras (Wide, First Violin, Cello, Overhead) and an 8-track field audio recorder. You need to synchronize all angles by audio waveform into a Multi-Camera Sequence, switch angles live during playback, balance the mix to -14 LUFS in the Audio Track Mixer, and export an archival ProRes MOV plus an AAF / FCPXML interchange package.

Step-by-Step Workflow

1. Create and Cut the Audio-Synced Multi-Camera Sequence

  1. In the Project panel, select the four camera clips and the master field recorder WAV file, then create a Multi-Camera Source Sequence synchronized by audio waveforms.
  2. Enable Multi-Camera View in the Program Monitor so all four camera angles play simultaneously on the left and the active program feed appears on the right.
  3. Press Space to play and select camera angles. After playback, use the Roll Edit tool to adjust angle cut points; Slip shortcuts adjust the source content inside a clip, not the transition point.

2. Mix Room Microphones and Verify EBU R128 Loudness

  1. Open the Audio Track Mixer.
  2. Insert a high-pass Parametric EQ at 45 Hz on the close instrument mics to remove stage footstep rumble, and apply a gentle Compressor and Limiter on the Master bus.
  3. Monitor integrated loudness and true peak across the whole performance. Use volume automation to reduce applause under the introduction. The example’s loudness target is a creative choice, not proof of EBU R128 compliance.

3. Export Broadcast Video and Timeline Interchange Files

  1. Export a ProRes MOV or MP4 master using supported export settings. Hardware encoding depends on codec, platform and device; inspect the exported file before delivery.
  2. Export an AAF (.aaf) for the studio sound engineer and a Final Cut Pro XML (.fcpxml) / OpenTimelineIO (.otio) archive for festival deliverables.
