Frequently Asked Questions
These guides describe the documented upstream workflow. XiFilm integration and installers are still in development; Alpha is free. Availability in a XiKey release has not yet been verified.
Licensing, Pricing & Updates
1. Is XiFilm free during Alpha?
Alpha is free under the XiKey Desktop policy. XiFilm integration and installers remain in development.
2. What will XiFilm cost at Beta?
At Beta, XiFilm is priced at $39/year ($19.50 in your first year with the 50% first-year discount) or $4.99/month ($0.99 for the first month). Alpha testers (founding members) keep the 50% yearly discount for life. Students pay $9/year for XiFilm or $19/year for XiKey Desktop Complete (all 14 apps).
3. What is the refund and update policy?
Beta subscriptions include a 30-day money-back policy; refunds revoke the licence. Updates are included while subscribed. Signed delivery through XiLauncher is in progress for this product. Perpetual licences will be announced later.
Editing, Color Grading & Interchange
4. Can I use my existing Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or Avid keyboard muscle memory?
The upstream shortcut editor offers FilmCraft, Premiere Pro Compatible, Final Cut Pro Compatible and Avid Media Composer Compatible presets, with conflict warnings. Bindings depend on the active preset and panel.
5. Which NLE timeline interchange formats does XiFilm support?
Upstream imports and exports FCP7 XML, FCPXML, OpenTimelineIO, EDL, AAF and OMF. Review interchange warnings and check the receiving application; each format carries different information.
6. Does XiFilm support hardware-accelerated video encoding?
Upstream hardware encoding is partial and depends on the codec, platform and hardware. MP4 and MOV export are documented, but universal FFmpeg hardware-encoder support is not claimed. XiFilm installer compatibility has not been verified.
7. Does XiFilm include broadcast loudness metering and colour scopes?
Upstream provides integrated loudness and true-peak readings, plus waveform, parade, histogram and vectorscope displays. Choose delivery targets from your distributor; a meter reading alone does not prove compliance.
