Interface Overview

These guides describe the documented upstream workflow. XiAudio integration and installers are still in development; Alpha is free. Availability in a XiKey release has not yet been verified.

Dual-Window DAW Architecture: Edit & Mix (Ctrl+= / Cmd+=)

XiAudio follows the classic studio DAW layout. Press Ctrl+= (Cmd+= on macOS) at any time to toggle between the Edit Window and the Mix Window (or open Mix in Separate Window for dual-display studio consoles):

1. Edit Window Toolbar (Top):
   • Four Edit Modes (F1–F4):
     • Shuffle (F1): Moving or deleting clips snaps adjacent clips together automatically (Ctrl-click locks Shuffle).
     • Slip (F2): Clips move freely in time (Shift-click adds Snap to Grid).
     • Spot (F3): Clicking a clip prompts for an exact timecode or BWF timestamp position.
     • Grid (F4): Clips and selections snap to the active Bar/Beat or Timecode grid (press F4 again for Relative Grid).
   • Zoom Controls & 5 Zoom Presets: Horizontal time zoom (Ctrl+[ / Ctrl+]), vertical waveform zoom (Ctrl+Alt+]), Fit Session (Alt+A), and 5 instant zoom memory buttons.
   • Six Edit Tools (F5–F10): Zoomer (F5), Trimmer (F6), Selector (F7), Grabber (F8), Scrubber (F9), and Pencil (F10) (activate F6+F7+F8 together for the Smart Tool).
   • Counters, Grid/Nudge, Transport & Output Meter: Main and Sub time counters (Bars|Beats, Min:Sec, Timecode, Feet+Frames, Samples), Grid and Nudge step controls, Transport, Tempo/Meter, and master peak/LUFS meter.
2. Track List, Playlists, Timeline Rulers & Clip List (Edit Window Center):
   • Manage Audio, Auxiliary Input, Master Fader, VCA Master, Instrument, MIDI, Folder, and Video tracks, alternate take Playlists, Elastic Audio warp markers, and automation lanes.
3. Mix Window (Ctrl+= / Cmd+=):
   • Console channel strips with Inserts A–E & F–J, Sends A–E & F–J, I/O selectors, EQ Curve thumbnails, Pan controls, Group IDs, Automation mode selectors, and Peak / RMS / LUFS meters. Press Ctrl+Alt+M (Cmd+Option+M) to toggle Narrow Mix strips.
4. Floating Studio Windows:
   • MIDI Editor (Piano Roll), MIDI Event List (Alt+=), Score Editor (Ctrl+Cmd+=) with MusicXML export, Memory Locations (Ctrl+5), Big Counter (Ctrl+3), Transport (Ctrl+1), Automation (Ctrl+4), Universe (Alt+7), and Clip Effects (Alt+6).
